Cancun Marathon, Half Marathon 2015

On December 5th, 2015 the 31st edition of Cancun Marathon, half marathon and 5K were held. More than 3,000 runners participated coming from 11 different countries and several different states in Mexico.

The Cancun marathon was a fun, energetic, and beautiful race. The course included the entire island, so you could see what it offers. At the starting line you were able to see a variety of colors and excited runners some of them looked nervous but  ready to enjoy the race.

At 4:00pm, the race chairman Jose Luis Gonzalez and Martin Cobos signaled for the race to start encouraging all participants to enjoy and support each other.   The fans were great supporting the runners all the way, with their cheers, banners, and musical instruments. During the course, you were able to enjoy live music and visit lots of fun booths for your entertainment. The race had a very good number of water and sports drinks stations. At the finish line “Mariachis” were playing traditional Mexican music.

Some runners got a massage to recover themselves faster from the effort. The Kenyan runners won almost all the categories, the overall male champion was Rodgers Ondati Gesabwa (2:26:07) followed by the Ethiopian Bado Worku Merdessa, (2:26:33), and the third place was for the Kenyan Elisha Korir Chumo (2:26:51).  In the female category the first three places were for Kenyans runners, Ogla Jerono Kimaiyo (2:58:50), Salina Taurus Jebitok (2:59:30) and Scola Jepkemoi Kiptoo (3:01:17).  The half marathon winner was Emmanuel Mnagat Chamer from Kenia (1:08:54), the second place was for Samuel Karanja Karuku, (1:08:56) and the third place for the Mexican Uziel Sarmiento Espíndola(1:09:10). The half marathon female division was dominated by the Mexicans, Marisol Guadalupe Romero Rosales,(1:17:00), Gicel Muñoz Gutiérrez (1:24:36) and Angélica Sánchez Ibarra (1:24:53).

Some runners stayed in the city for a few days to enjoy Cancun and other tourist attractions like Tulum, Cozumel and the Coba Maya Jungle.
